Gloria’s practice investigates the self and the ways that identity is formed through desire. Her work is a playful exercise of dissolving and remodelling of the self, through which she can navigate the space between fantasy and self.
Gloria’s work spans many disciplines and medium, the use of objects and vintage aesthetic, along with found video footages or images, are material which she manically and playfully reassembles and repurposes, making these key aspects of her practice along with a recurrent idea of loop and repeat.
Lately Gloria has been experimenting with using her own image in her practice, successfully blending elements of performance and her dance practice, which brings a welcomed deeper complexity to the work.
Gloria approaches her work from a personal standpoint reflecting on her own experience of the self in the world; her practices unearths and interrogates ideals which are absorbed into female self-defined identity, and question how these influence both the formation and perception of fantasy and the self. Her work allows her to create a space where she can play with and explore her own fantasies and identity. Gloria works with various mediums across multiple disciplines such as dance, performance and cooking to achieve her vision; tease, curiosity and playfulness are key components of her work.
